DAY 1: Arrival in Medellin from USA

DAY 2: Medellin: City tour and Metrocable

After breakfast at the hotel we visit to Cerro Nutibara (Nutibara Hill) located in the heart of the city where we can find a replica of an Antioquian town (pueblito Paisa) from yore. People from Antioquía, Medellín are referred to as Paisas who were the colonizers of what is now known as the Coffee Region. Then we head to the Plaza de las Esculturas (Sculptures Plaza) located next to the Antioquian Museum where there are several giant sculptures donated by the reknown artist Fernando Botero, who was born in this city. We also visit the “Parque de los Pies Descalzos” (Barefoot Park), “Parque de los Deseos” (Park of the Wishes), and the Botanic Garden. We get on the “Metrocable” (aerial cable car which was conceived with the purpose of improving transportation conditions for the citizens of Medellín. It is geared towards the advancement of living conditions for the lower income population, which makes great use of our public transportation.

DAY 3: Medellin: Peñol and Guatape Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, we leave Medellín and drive for about an hour and a half through a colourful patchwork of crops until arriving to El Peñol Reservoir, built in 1979 as the largest hydroelectric dam in Antioquia. During its construction, the River Nare flooded the area, leaving several hills out of the water which gives a special design resembling fjords of deep blue waters. Next to the dam there is a huge rock called El Peñol that could be climbed to enjoy a wonderful view.

We also visit Guatapé, a charming town recognized by its unique architecture and house plinths. Lunch is included at one of the traditional restaurants. Return to Medellín.

Continuation of the tour with a stop at San Felipe’s Fort, built in the XVII century to protect the city. DAY 3: Cartagena / Isla del Encanto

This tranquil island offers calm and serenity among the soft white sandy beaches located within the Rosario Archipelago. The Isla del Encanto is a beautiful resort in the chain of islands is the destination for the day tour. With 200 meters of white sand beaches and crystal clear water, this small island also offers a swimming pool with sea water and many hammocks to relax.

Breakfast at the hotel followed by and morning transfer to the tourist pier and departure by motorboat to the beautiful Islas del Rosario archipelago, located an hour and a half south of the Bay of Cartagena. These islands have been declared a National Natural Park as it has one of the most important coral reefs of the Caribbean Colombian coast. Welcome to Bogotá and Colombia. Upon arrival at the international airport El Dorado, a representative of Metropolitan Touring greets you and takes you to your selected hotel, giving you a short briefing on Bogotá and the country in general.

DAY 2: Saturday – Bogota, city tour combined with Gold Museum

Breakfast and transfer to the famous and well preserved historical colonial quarter of La Candelaria. Steeped in history this area is a must for photographers with its splendid colonial architecture; so take the opportunity to record the sights and sounds of this fascinating part of Bogotá. Walk through the streets permeating with the heady atmosphere of the past, as revealed by the library of Luis Angel Arango and down to the prominent Plaza de Bolivar, the heart of Bogotá where locals and visitors mingle amongst the magnificent and foreboding structures. The Cathedral, the Congress Palace, the Cardinal’s Palace, the colonial church of El Sagrario, the House of Independence, the Palace of Justice and the City Hall are all located here, so soak in the ambiance of this quarter. The tour takes in all aspects of some of the most famous buildings from the Congress Palace, the Presidential Palace Antonio Nariño to the colonial church of San Agustin.
The tour then continues for a further two hours and offers up arguably the most important gold museum in the world and ‘must see’ the Museum del Oro where one of the world’s greatest collection of pre-Hispanic Indian gold artifacts are displayed. Visit strong-room on the top floor where the most treasured pieces are displayed, and where the installation is overwhelming as ancient sacred gold artifacts are systematically illuminated and the voice of an ancient people transports the mind to another time. The museum also has exhibitions displaying geographical and social aspects of both pre-Columbian and contemporary Colombia.

Buffet breakfast. Morning visit to Sugar Loaf for a welcoming caipirinha toast on top of Urca Hill. The journey to the top is made in glass cable-cars. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level. On this first stage, you will have time to admire spectacular views of the entire bay and its surrounding islands sipping a resfreshing caipirinha, our special treat to welcome you to the Wonderful City!

From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado and downtown Rio.

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro / Iguassu Falls

Afternoon visit to the Brazilian side of the falls. The trip begins at the Iguaçu National Park with a drive through the lush subtropical vegetation of the park en route to the falls. Take a stroll on the trail that descends down the canyon, to offer panoramic views of more than 240 falls. Embark on the glass elevator up the cliff face for an exquisite view from the upper deck. The Iguassu National Park along with its “sister” park in Argentina form the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America which along with the waterfalls, have been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will end the tour with a visit to the artisans fair.

Day 5: Iguazu Falls

Buffet Breakfast. Morning visit to the Argentinean side of the falls. We will cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge heading towards the Iguaçu National Park in Argentina. At the entrance, a small train takes visitors on a tour through the park, making 2 stops. Follow the pathways to the top of the waterfalls that provide spectacularly unique views of the ‘Cataratas’, amidst the abundant nature filled with orchids, colorful birds and other wildlife. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the ‘Garganta do Diabo’ waterfall (Devil’s Throat) – the largest fall in the park.

Day 6: Iguazu Falls / Manaus

Evening Alligator Spotting
After enjoying a delicious dinner guests will embark in motorized canoes on a unique adventure deep within the Amazon jungle in search of alligators which are also known as “caimans” by the locals. Equipped with flashlights and accompanied by knowledgeable guides, guests will be provided with all important information before we begin our quest for these semi-aquatic carnivorous reptiles. We will glide down the river under the moonlight, to the soothing sounds of the waters and animals of the forest. Upon spotting the “caimans”, we will use our flashlights to temporarily paralyze them, enabling the guides to draw the canoe near the creatures for an up close and personal view of these beautiful animals.

Note: during “high water level” season (from April to August) and on full moon evenings, it might be difficult to find alligators.

Visit to the Monkey’s Jungle
A rehabilitation center for primates brought to this local by IBAMA when confiscated from illegal sales and exports. At this location primates are initially kept in quarantine in order to be evaluated and treated by veterinarians and biologists. After a period of time primates are reintroduced to the jungle. During the years that this project has been in action, a twice a day food program was developed feed the primates, (always at 11:00 a/m and 05:00 p/m). During the feeding process, this area is opened to visitors under the supervision of guides and specialized staff, guests of Ecopark Jungle Lodge can observe film and photograph the animals in a total and safe environment.

Day 8: Manaus

On this guided tour by motorized canoe guests will be able to witness one of the Amazon’s most fascinating natural wonders. We will depart to the “meeting of the waters” where the Solimões River and the Rio Negro converge to create the enormous Amazonas River. The two rivers flow side by side for several kilometers and each maintains its own individual coloring before mixing. The crystal-clear blue waters of the Solimões River contrasts with the muddy waters of the Rio Negro and create a unique and gorgeous natural spectacle.

The Lower City tour offers another perspective of the sprawling city taking us to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace than the bustling upper city. Fishermen fish from dug out canoes, locals collect shellfish at low tide, schooners lie at anchor, all protected by the famous Bonfim church, one of the most important churches of pilgrimage in Brazil and deeply syncretised with the Candomblé. (visit). We continue to the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the city and on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local goods and souvenirs. This is also where you can test your bargaining talents! This tour is a complement to the Historical city tour. Stop for Acarajé tasting. Evening Alligator Spotting
After enjoying a delicious dinner guests will embark in motorized canoes on a unique
adventure deep within the Amazon jungle in search of alligators which are also known as
“caimans” by the locals. Equipped with flashlights and accompanied by knowledgeable
guides, guests will be provided with all important information before we begin our quest
for these semi-aquatic carnivorous reptiles. We will glide down the river under the
moonlight, to the soothing sounds of the waters and animals of the forest. Upon spotting
the “caimans”, we will use our flashlights to temporarily paralyze them, enabling the
guides to draw the canoe near the creatures for an up close and personal view of these

Visit to the Monkey’s Jungle
A rehabilitation center for primates brought to this local by IBAMA when confiscated from
illegal sales and exports. At this location primates are initially kept in quarantine in order
to be evaluated and treated by veterinarians and biologists. After a period of time
primates are reintroduced to the jungle. During the years that this project has been in action, a twice a day food program was developed feed the primates, (always at 11:00 a/m and 05:00 p/m). During the feeding process, this area is opened to visitors under the supervision of guides and specialized staff, guests of Ecopark Jungle Lodge can observe film and photograph the animals in a total and safe environment. Afternoon visit to the Brazilian side of the falls. The trip begins at the Iguaçu National Park with a drive through the lush subtropical vegetation of the park en-route to the Falls. Take a stroll on the trail that descends down the canyon, to offer panoramic views of more than 240 falls. Embark on the glass elevator up the cliff face for an exquisite view from the upper deck. The Iguassu National Park along with its “sister” park in Argentina form the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America which along with the waterfalls, have been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. DAY 5: Manaus – Ecopark Lodge

After breakfast, you will depart for a tour of Meeting of the Waters , the spectacular merge of Negro and Solimões Rivers. The phenomenon happens due to differences in temperature, density and speed of the waters of the rivers. Continue the trip on the Amazon River to the Island of ” Terra Nova ” where lunch will be served in a typical restaurant (rustic yet clean restaurant with buffet style, international and regional dishes). Depending on the level of the waters, a visit to a typical ” caboclo ” (local inhabitants) villa will be included (at Terra Nova Island) during this full day tour. DAY 6: Depart Manaus

After breakfast, guests will go on a nature hike. Embark on a comfortable train that ascends the mountain, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is located 2,300 ft above sea level. The Christ statue, known as the “wonder of Rio”, was recently elected one of the 7 “New Wonders of the World”. Upon arrival at the top, guests can use the panoramic elevators or escalators to arrive at the foot of the statute. There, passengers can enjoy a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and discover why it is called the “Marvelous City”. Afterwards, descend the mountain and stop for a delicious Brazilian Barbecue lunch.

Over a million tourists each year visit the world famous ‘Pão de Açúcar’, (Sugar Loaf Mountain), which has become an iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of a concentrated, refined sugar loaf. The journey to the top is made in glass cable-cars. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its surrounding islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable-car to the top of Sugar Loaf which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado Mountain and downtown Rio de Janeiro.

Half day Historical City Tour
Breakfast at the hotel. Historic tour of the city of Salvador. Starting in the modern suburb of Barra and making the way slowly by to the old historical section of town, the Pelourinho area with the largest and the best preserved complex colonial architecture in the Americas. Visit the church of S. Francisco with its exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior and the Pelourinho Square, the heart of the old town. This tour shows two distinct aspects of Salvador, the new and the old, concentrating on the early expansion of the city.
