Rural Landscapes and Communities
Get a closer look at indigenous Ecuadorian culture and its wonderful rural landscapes. First stop is the viewpoint of the Andean Bear. While enjoying breakfast it is possible to observe a group of spectacled bears in their natural habitat. Later visit the petroglyphs of Shanshipamba. Afternoon explore the Arrayanes Forest. Return to Hacienda Piman.

Breakfast at Hacienda Piman and prepare yourself for a full day of nature and wonderful landscapes. Depart at 8AM to Ibarra for a brief walk around its historic center and continue to the train station where you will board a locomotive for one hour and a half adventure ride through natural landscapes to Salinas de Ibarra where you will be welcome by a community who will show you part of their culture including music and dance presentation.
Later visit the leather village of Cotacachi and continue to Peguche Wasi a workshop that show the kichwa craftsmanship and weaving of Otavalo’s people.

Leave Quito at 8AM to head north through the winding roads of the Andes, reaching the fertile province of Imbabura. On the way stop at Quitsato monument right on the Equator line, here you can stand one foot in the northern and one foot in the southern hemisphere. Continue to the Rose showroom where you will have a flour mill tour and lunch. Later, enjoy the visit to the Otavalo Market, home of the most colorful in Ecuador and the largest indigenous markets in South America. Continue to Hacienda Piman arriving around in the afternoon.

Get a closer look at indigenous Ecuadorian culture and its wonderful rural landscapes. Leave Hacienda Piman at 6 AM. The first stop is the viewpoint of the Andean Bear located in the community of San José de Sigsipamba. While enjoying breakfast it is possible to observe a group of spectacled bears in their natural habitat. Later visit the petroglyphs of Shanshipamba. Symbolic designs engraved on rocks, made by wearing their surface layer, they can be observed making a short walk through this community including the old routes of trade in the Amazon. After this trek, enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant on the way to the Arrayanes Forest, which includes an immense variety of landscapes, color and beauty of a thousand years. Return to Hacienda Piman.
